Sea Change Beck
The most depressing, yet soulful of Beck's albums, Sea Change is a must have. Thank goodness his girlfriend broke up with him, pushing Beck into the dark place where he created this album.

Listen to when:
Sad
Depressed
Sleepy
Peaceful
Gloomy
Nostalgic
Tired
Relaxed

Warning: Do not listen to when trying to complete homework late at night- Sea Change will lull you to sleep. Also do not take more than once every other day- you could become addicted to the album and need to take more and more doses of Beck to keep fully satisfied.

Top 10 Bands

Keep in mind that these bands/musicians are not listed in order of greatness- it's hard enough for me as it is to pick only ten.
  1. System of a Down
  2. Moby
  3. Incubus
  4. Beck
  5. Red Hot Chili Peppers
  6. The Hives
  7. Green Day
  8. Wolfmother
  9. Gorillaz
  10. Billy Talent

Notables who didn't quite but almost made it to the big ten-

Muse, Linkin Park, Bonobo, Daft Punk, Death Cab for Cutie, The Beatles, and Spoon

I find myself reviewing my list and thinking that there are no female musicians there included. Though I think this is sad, it is true that I like music made by men more than that made by women. I do like some girl bands- notably Paramore, Flyleaf, and Evanescence, but they do not compare in depth and meaning to the others. They are like Christopher Paolini compared to T. S. Eliot (*see bottom if confused).

Oh, I forgot to mention Rihanna- her music is the most awesome for dancing. Same goes for Katy Perry- whose song "I Kissed a Girl" , consequently is banned from my house by my uber-mormon anti-gay Mom. Also, dont forget Ciara who is also a double-up-thumbs.

Back to the point at hand, I think this means I have a guy-mentality. I don't like any sappy or sentimental songs. I do, however, like slightly mopey/sad songs, or songs that are romantic but not in a gooey way. Girls tend to be gooey. I also like angry songs, which are usually done better by a manband- preferablly one with a lot of angst. I think testosterone helps them with this, so, chemically speaking, guys have one up on girls when it comes to rock music.

*If the above statment did not make sense to you, you are either unfamilar with the writers (I use the term loosley for Paolini) or are unable to comprehend metaphorical statements, in which case no amount of english class will help you. If you suffer from the previous ailment, look the people up on wikipedia- you can even copy and paste their names into the little search box.
